To make this Faith, Hope & Charity poster for PURE Theatre, my image of actress Sharon Graci was layered with a 1936 image that Walker Evans took of Allie Mae Burroughs in Hale County, Alabama. Burroughs was working as a photojournalist for the Farm Security Administration and was with James Agee on assignment for Fortune magazine. PURE’s adaptation of Faith, Hope & Charity was set in the South during the Great Depression.
